The Madness of March: Listicle March 26, 2026

I grew up in the Midwest so I'm an old hat at tornado warnings and hail and thirty degree swings in temperature in a single day; you know, the general chaos that can come with early spring in the northern hemisphere. This year, March did not disappoint. We saw a few 80 degree days (hello, earliest kayaking of year) followed by snow flurries and storms. I've decided to embrace the weather chaos this year because what else are you going to do? You know what they say: if you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes. This month's listicle reflects the show Mother Nature gave us.

  1. Fave flower: daffodils. Every year. They come up every year and yet I behave as if I've never seen them before. My phone overfloweth with daffodil photos. I can't help it. I love them.

    2. Fave descending storm front: OK this storm blew in last week and I walked out to look at the yellow tinged sky and was rewarded by a double rainbow and then the view of the front as it passed by. How dramatic, right? >chef's kiss<

  1. Fave recovery: Maple. The wonder pony was lame in January but we got things figured out and we're back, baby! Happily trotting our way through the New Jersey Pine Barrens once again this past weekend, sound as a bell. Love this lady.

  1. Fave sound: spring peepers. These are the little frogs that start singing around here in the middle of March. They're also called spring chorus frogs, which I find amusing, as I picture them in top hats marching across a Broadway stage.

  1. Fave orange lady: Penny. She's just really nice, OK?
