Late summer shenanigans.

  1. Fave video: please enjoy this clip of Maple the pony enjoying Oreos during a ride in New Jersey last weekend. It was hot, it was humid, there were horseflies and ground hornets but we made a new friend. Life is a balance.

Maple plus Oreos equals bliss.

2. Fave color: purple. Not only is purple Maple's color and therefore now one of my top choices, it is the color of some GMO tomatoes I've been growing along with some of my colleagues. Say what you want about GMO -- or don't, I don't really care -- these engineered maters from Norfolk Healthy Produce are pretty cool, easy to grow, and prolific. So, you know what they say: if you have purple tomatoes, make purple ketchup. Or at least that's what I say. And did. And it was a success.

  1. Fave chill out: more loop yarn blanket. Back in June I was finishing up my first finger knitting project, making a sheep blanket for my boss. I found some cryptid patterns, including a Loch Ness Monster blanket. Fast forward to right now and boom: one Nessie blanket coming right up. Isn't this cool?!

    4. Fave new word: mondegreen. This is when you mishear something, like a song lyric. I feel a little bit of joy when I learn there is a term for something I previously thought didn't have a word for what it is. And this is a good one.

    5. Fave way of being (although I can't claim to practice it): go with the flow. The honey flow, that is. We harvested honey three times this year: June, July, August. As the season gets later, the honey gets darker, due to what's in bloom at the time.

Bonus late summer sunset. The locusts were singing, a soft breeze was drifting off the ridge, the temperature was falling to a comfortable setting. For a moment, I was in the moment.
